We started with table tennis at tt.sports-connect.link and plan to expand to other sports like tennis and badminton in the future. Our long-term vision is a platform where players worldwide can connect through sport β both locally and internationally.
The Story Behind Sports Connect
The idea for Sports Connect grew from two personal experiences. The first was playing in a table tennis team league in Japan. Every now and then, one or two team members couldn't make it to a match, and finding a substitute meant reaching out to friends one by one, hoping someone was available. It was always stressful and time-consuming. "If only there were a simple way to post a request and find someone quickly," I thought. That frustration became one of the seeds for this service.
The second experience came during backpacking trips through Southeast Asia. I always brought my table tennis paddle with me and tried to find places to play in each country I visited. I searched through Facebook groups, Instagram, email, and local bulletin boards β piecing together contacts from scattered sources to arrange a game. It worked eventually, but it always took a lot of effort.
Despite the hassle, the experiences of connecting with players from different countries were unforgettable. In Cambodia, I played against Chinese tourists. We barely shared a common language, but the moment we stepped up to the table, everything clicked. Table tennis became our common language.
That's when I realized: if all of this information were in one place, finding a practice partner β whether at home or abroad β could be so much simpler. Sports Connect was born from that idea. True to its name, this platform is meant to connect people through sport.
